In academic research, the order of the authors plays a crucial role. However, by default, Zotero only displays the first author. With the help of the Zotero plugin \u2018Zotero Better Authors\u2019, you can now display the last author of a paper in your Zotero library and search specifically for particular labs and research groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What does \u2018Zotero Better Authors\u2019 do?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Particularly in the natural sciences, the last<\/strong> auth or<\/strong> of a paper usually is of particular importance<\/strong>, as this is usually the person in charge, the Principal Investigator (PI)<\/strong>. This person often represents the lab<\/strong>from which the publication originates, and provides important insights into the origin<\/strong> and the key areas<\/strong> of a research paper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Open Zotero and select \u201cPlugins\u201d from the \u201cTools\u201d menu.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select \u201cInstall Plugin from File\u201d and add the downloaded plugin file.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    After installation, you can now view and change the Zotero Better Authors settings in the Zotero settings (Edit > Settings), which are very self-explanatory. Under \"Display content settings\" you have the important setting \"Last Author<\/strong>\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To enable the column in your library, right-click on the column headers in Zotero and select \u2018Last Author\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
