Welcome to my blog post about the art of literature research<\/strong> and citation<\/strong> with Zotero<\/strong>! In this article, I'll show you how to write your academic papers efficiently by using the great tool called Zotero<\/strong> is used. It is the ultimate solution for organising your research sources and citing your sources correctly and effortlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You add your sources to Zotero (on your computer, tablet or mobile phone) and cite them as you write. At the end, you insert a bibliography with a single click, and you\u2019re ready to submit. Zotero is very similar to Citavi, but the licence for Citavi at DHBW has now expired. That is why DHBW specifically recommends Zotero.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Zotero?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Before we dive into the details, let's take a look at why Zotero is an invaluable tool for your studies at the DHBW. Zotero is a free open-source software designed specifically for researchers<\/strong> and students<\/strong> . Not only does it enable you to organise<\/strong> \u00a0to sources<\/strong>, but also enable you to cite correctly<\/strong> and create<\/strong> at ease. Completely automatic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step-by-step instructions for Zotero at the DHBW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: Installing Zotero<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

To use Zotero, you must first download<\/strong> and install<\/strong>Zotero. Visit the official Zotero<\/strong><\/a>website, download the application and install it on your computer. Zotero is available for Windows, Mac and Linux alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2: Set up your account<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After the installation create<\/strong> a Zotero-Konto<\/strong> . This allows you to share your literature data between your different devices like with a tablet or mobile\u00a0<\/strong>but also safely store your library<\/strong>. Please do not skip this step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: The Zotero browser extension<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Zotero offers a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Safari. Download this extension to import your sources directly<\/strong> from the internet<\/strong> \u00a0to your library<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zotero automatically detects <\/span>literature metadata<\/strong>as you surf the Internet. Do you need an article from JSTOR or a preprint from arXiv.org? A news item from the S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung or a book from the National Library? Zotero is your companion, everywhere.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Add your literature sources<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Once you have installed the extension, you can easily import literature sources from websites, online libraries and catalogues. Your sources are automatically organised in your Zotero library<\/strong>. Zotero automatically recognises the metadata<\/strong> and you can select the collection in which you want to save the item.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To make this even easier for you, I\u2019m providing the following public library<\/a><\/strong> that will guide you on<\/strong>how to enter your metadata correctly, in order to have footnotes and bibliography render correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5: Install Word Processor Integration<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Zotero creates citations<\/strong> in your text or footnotes and bibliographies for any text editor, directly in Word, LibreOffice or Google Docs. This integration is automatically installed for you when you install Zotero, regardless of whether you use Word or another supported programme. You will find a new tab<\/strong> called Zotero<\/strong> in the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sollte diese Leiste nicht auftauchen, k\u00f6nnt ihr die Erweiterung nochmals installieren. Hierzu einfach in Zotero in den Einstellungen unter „Zitieren“ runterscrollen und unter „Textverarbeitungsprogramme“ auf „Microsoft Word Add-on nochmals installieren“ klicken.
